This site does not represent and is not affiliated with Roche, the manufacturers of Xenical (orlistat).

Contraindications

Xenical should not be taken in the following circumstances:

  1. Patients with chronic malabsorption syndrome
  2. Patients with cholestasis
  3. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding.
  4. Patients who are known to be hypersensitive or allergic to any of the components of Xenical.
  5. Organic causes of obesity (eg low throid activity) should be excluded before the prescription of Xenical.
  6. Xenical and cyclosporine should not administered together as Xenical can affect the absorption of cyclosporine. It is recommended that they are taken with at least a two hour gap inbetween.

We make no claims as to the completeness of this list - there may well be other contraindications to the prescription of Xenical.
